A frozen shoulder presents itself as a stiff and painful shoulder with a significantly restricted movement. There are a number of conditions which cause this painful shoulder injury and it occurs most commonly in middle age or later on in life and typically follows a minor injury. Frozen shoulders are fairly easily treated using anti-inflammatory medication. Sufferers also find it a benefit by placing hot pad on the shoulder area a short period before exercising the shoulder muscle. If you are suffering from a frozen shoulder a physiotherapist will be able to advise you on the best exercise program to help alleviate symptoms. If the pain is particularly severe, consult with your medical doctor or physician as it may be possible to have a steroid injection directly into the joint.
